KIDS ART CLASSES
Spring is on its way, and with it comes something we've been excited to share: this season, we're launching free monthly art classes for children at the farm.
Starting Sunday May 3rd, children 6-12 yo are invited to join us on the first Sunday of each month as part of Coyote Cafe. Led by lifelong educator and longtime friend of the farm Caroline Cregan, each class will draw on the natural world and all the farm has to offer with hands-on, child-led creative exploration. Programs will include:
MAY 3: COLLAGE & ZINE MAKING
We'll begin with a walking tour of the farm where we observe the specifics of the SPRING SEASON. We’ll pay attention to repeating colors, textures, shapes and general FEELINGS that we observe outside in nature. With these noticings in our pockets, we’ll come back to the art studio and dive into the world of zines: what they are, why they matter, and how to fold a single sheet of paper into an 8-page work of art. Using magazines, old books, paper and glue, we’ll all create our own picture of the season as we’ve just observed it.
JUNE 7: PAPER MAKING & MARBLING
JULY 5: BOTANICAL PRINTING
AUGUST 2: SUN PRINTING (CYANOTYPE)
SEPTEMBER 6: BLOCK PRINTING
OCTOBER 4: CERAMICS
This initiative is close to our hearts. At WESTAC, we've always believed in the importance of building intergenerational community. Offering children the space to make, observe, and create with their own hands, at their own pace, is a natural extension of that vision.
